21yr-old Maisie of Mawbray's breeding days were thought to be over so she has been a companion for our  stallion. She had other ideas and has produced a late, late foal. Mother and son are doing fine.

Now 2 months old, Marvello is growing quickly but does not know whether to shed his foal hair or grow his winter coat.

Even after this spell of hot weather, Marvello is still reluctant to part with his old hair.

same here all 4 of ours have a coat - ranging from not too bad to a good covering - maybe they know something we don't and the heat we have now is very temporary!

A final twist to this story ... after finally losing his foal hair and winter coat, Marvello has revealed a mysterious jet black circle [see photo]. This is a new one on me. Has any-one an explanation?
Co-incidentally I had filled in his registration form with the name Marvel because of the unexpected nature of his arrival but then remembered we had used the name before so just added lo to the end. Then he reveals a black o ... weird!!!!!

At Appleby show [unaffiliated this year] Marvello made his ring debut. He was best yearling and junior champion.

At Keswick show Marvello won his second best yearling trophy.

This could be a fairy-tale. Maybe entries were poor at Ennerdale show [unaffiliated] but  Marvello won the 3yr-old and under class then went on to be junior and overall Shetland champion.

An update for his followers. At just over 15 months, Marvello is already close to 40" so is going to be a big boy. As yet he has not found a new home but is quite happy on his own in a field near the local primary school.
